Kathryn crosses the snow slopes above Hester Pinney Creek. The sun has only just risen over the saddle and the snow remains crisp enough to make it easy in crampons. The view over the East Matukituki shows Mt.Aspiring and the Pope's Nose with Kitchener cirque below. We would hear the occasional avalanche and rush for the camera to catch it on film. We saw two slip into the lake above Thomson-Turnbull falls.
