The walkway has two entrances – Haighs Access Rd, off East Coast Rd at the southern end, and Stillwater Rd at the northern end. Haighs is the nicest by far - straight into forest! The other one takes you across wide muddy farmtrack terrain, thru macroca |

A bit of heaven in Auckland. Nice forest, and not well frequented in winter as Akldrs don't like mud (yup - blouses). Great for a trail run, or a walk with light shoes. Go at high tide and jump in for a dip at the beach. Who cares if it's winter, go on!
Those times are from DOC, (for more click this) so it'd be less if you're a keen walker. Or, you can run it at a mild and vaguely distracted pace, 1 hour return to Dacre Cottage. If you don't feel like the hundredsteps section today then zip around the rockshelf.
NB Be careful leaving your car at the roadend esp. weekends after dark. Don't leave valuables. Or just leave it up the road outside one of the homesteads to be sure.
