12 May 2013 | For me the highlight of the circuit was a visit to this hut. 2 large platform bunks, table & bench. Views from every window: Taranaki peak, Stratford, Ruapehu, north and west coast of Taranaki. Wonderful. Reasonable route up from the high-point of the Barra Falls track - but opportunity to get bluffed near the top if visibility is low. 'Summit Track' to Dawsons is badly eroded nearer the top - great for descents - surf the pumice-scree, but hard going up. | |
