15 Feb 2015 | An easy walk in from the car park at Lake Heron. Lovely open country. Hut was very busy - glad we packed a tent. Ended up with a family of 6 in the hut, two of us in a 3 man tent, 3 TA SOBO walkers in tarp tents, and a mountain biker who arrived late at night with no gear and slept on the table! Its worth taking a tent in summer - its getting as busy as Woolshed Creek! | |

12 Jul 2014 | Good to have firewood nearby, as it was a cold day and night. Our party of four shared the hut with a hunter and a climbing couple (who double bunked). They went off early the next morning to climb Mt Taylor | |

30 Dec 2012 | DoC have kindly felled some poplar trees alongside the hut for firewood. Also plenty of dead matagouri in the Swin. Sir Ed's graffitti is rumoured to be here from when he climbed Mt Taylor. | |
