Removal of windfall and track upgrades are in progress. Inangahua River section cleared, Deep Creek in progress. Waiuta to Big River very good! To poppet head & sawmill like a highway now from Big River. Don't think Rainy Creek is being done & is still overgrown! Up to dam not recut (yet?) but track has some new marker waratahs on it and is easy to follow. | |

The water race section adjacent the Inangahua River and the flood track up Deep Creek have a lot of uncleared windthrow at the moment. There are smashed bridges and the odd slip as well. Using Deep Creek and the terrace sections of track beside the creek but not the flood routes where they go up high is fine. The water race section beside the Inangahua River can be cut out and the alternative route is marked but involves fording the Inangahua River rather than using a swingbridge. | |

Track conditions on the flood track are TERRIBLE - needs a chainsaw for the huge amount of deadfall. Rest of track is reasonable. Most relics are very close to Big River. I have a full trip report here: https://fastforwardlife.wordpress.com/2014/12/29/big-river-reefton/ | |
