Approached the hut from Lake Lyndon, past Rabbit Hill to point 1660, witnessed the genesis of an out-of-control fire above the lake. From there we headed down the north/west track (which was overgrown in places and resulted in a torn knee cartilage), past the hut and out to Ben More Station. | |

First day of winter, nice walk on a sunny day. The track was a bit muddy. Hut has just been repainted and looks great. DOC times are stated as "3 hours". That is the return time, not one-way. Next time, it would be good to explore up onto Ben More itself. | |

A new stove has been installed in the hut. That track west of the hut does indeed go up to the bushline. And the track south of the hut goes down to the head of a tributary of the North Selwyn. It is an attractive wee place. It is possible to do a daywalk loop up onto the Benmore Range, beginning on the West track and ending on the South track. |
