Heaphy Track

For Brown Hut (Kahurangi)
Alert Aorere (Kahurangi National Park) predator control operation

An aerial 1080 operation that includes the eastern part of the Heaphy Track is scheduled to start at the first opportunity after 20 July 2020.

The affected section of track is between Brown Hut and approximately 3 km west of James Mackay Hut. 

The affected section of track will be closed temporarily during 1080 bait application until the track is cleared of most baits. This may entail a delay of several hours to more than half a day. 

At least five days prior to the 1080 operation non-toxic baits will be applied. The track will not be closed but it is recommended that walkers/cyclists do not use the track until baits have been applied over the track, or care exercised if directly below a helicopter. DOC or contractor (Vector Free Marlborough Ltd) staff will be present at most huts to advise. 

Information signs will be placed at both ends of the track immediately before the start of both operations.

For Perry Saddle Hut

Alert Lewis hut - Closed from 1 November

Lewis hut has been removed from DOC's booking system from 1 November 2020. The hut will be removed after this date and replaced.
