Not accessible in high river flows – Carrington Hut Route
The Waimakariri River has changed course about 1 km west of the Anti Crow River confluence and the flood track to avoid the Waimakariri River in high flows is washed out on this section. The option to go through the bush on steep terrain, crossing two very slippery waterfall faces above the swiftly flowing river, is not advised. You will need to cross the Waimakariri further downstream to bypass this section. It is not possible to cross the Waimakariri in high water or flood conditions. This is a long-term alert.
