The Budget

I havent looked at the details yet but theres *$81m for predator control programmes listed on stuff, i cant see anything else for conservation as yet http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/industries/92927830/budget-2017-whats-in-it-at-a-glance
Visualisation for DOC: http://chewydata.com/samples/170525-Budget2017/#expenditure.real.2017.2731
I'll just leave this here: http://thewireless.co.nz/articles/the-pencilsword-elimination

That DOC thing just seems misleading and makes me cynical about the motives of whoever wrote it. It seems to be referring to nominal funding rather than real funding (ie not taking inflation into account). It's also only showing departmental expenses, without showing what's happening to the Natural Heritage budget inside that. Within Departmental Expenses, several categories like Capital Expenses, Policy Advice and Predator Free NZ, have all risen sharply while Natural Heritage funding has dropped. It may as well have come directly from the Ministers' office, and that should be concerning from an agency that's meant to be independent from politics.
