Great Walk hut/camp site Fees Increase

Increases across the board. Milford going up to $70 a night (an increase from $162 to $210 for the track plus an additional ~$200 transport required).

All the more reason to avoid, or freedom camp away from the tracks!
30% is not insignificant but I don't imagine it will reduce demand to below the track's capacity.
Curious to note the article's reference to the Three Capes walk in Tasmania - I remember the Milford being used as part of the justification for both the Three Capes development costs and for the huge fees. (note that you only walk to two capes :)
you get large youth groups doing the great walks, all those under 18 are charged nothing, lowering the income from the walks, it disadvantages parents wanting to take their young kids.. easy for youth groups to subsidise the adults because of the no's involved.... get the parents of the kids to chip in towards their fee...
Aren't they also looking at preferential booking for NZers & a split citizen/non- tariff ?.

Ah ah, using the Three Capes track as an example is laughable. This is an environmental disaster, they just cut too much vegetation, and the track wasn't very popular in the first place, so there was no need for huts etc. they just created it for marketing reasons. So taking example on the destruction of a national park is not a good sign. And it is outrageously expensive too for what it is!
