Updates March 2010

Hi everybody, Map and coordinate handling has been improved. You can now paste coordinates (e.g. WGS84 -43.596503, 170.142603) into the NZ Map search box and see the location. Coordinate parsing is improved -- it will now handle degree symbols and so forth. You can also enter degrees and decimal minutes, including MistaB's example "S42* 17.232 E173* 18.221". When adding content, the form to choose locations has been improved. It no longer forgets what type of map you're looking at when you search, and there are a few other tweaks. The related information picker is much easier to use now and orders things in a much better way. Replying to a message you sent used to throw an error but now it works (although the reply goes to the other person, not you). The private mail system has been revised as users appeared to be finding it too complicated. You now either use the mail system or not. You can also block individuals from contacting you, but they won't know you have blocked them -- you will just appear as if you have mail disabled. In case you are wondering, the mail system is there so that you can get in touch with members without needing to publicise your email address. You are welcome to share your email address within private mail if you like. The profile form has been simplified. I hope you like the changes. I'll be watching for errors. Matthew

Try Ctrl+F5.
The changes look good. Just wondering whether it would be possible to enhance the "tracks" layout by having an option to add a gpx showing the actual route (similar to the map display under gpx). Also whether it is possible to tag photos to the waypoints so that when you click on them, in addition to the Location Data, you get a thumbnail of the photo. Just a thought ...
Hi Roderick, I'll have to think about that. It's definitely a long term goal to be able to replace the markers for tracks with lines representing the routes.
