Forums and threads in general

I don't know what others think about this, but.... Is there a special reason for the 'Post to a new thread' button? I've seen several cases where people have used it, but more often than not it's seemed accidental, and after that having two threads with the same subject just gets confusing. Sometimes, I've also seen people very confused about how to start a new thread, and they often post in an existing one when they'd rather not. I'm wondering if it'd be useful to remove the 'Post to a new thread' button from the end of threads, and also add a 'Start New Thread' button to the *top* of each forum, instead of hiding it down at the end of the page. The forums here seem unusual compared with other forums because here, people often use existing threads to post about wildly different things. (eg. The 'in the news' thread probably has at least 4 or 5 unrelated topics through it.) Do people prefer to avoid creating new threads for certain reasons, or is it because it's hard to do at present?
Well the time has nearly arrived 12 of March i fly out 2 days in Ak then fly to ChCh ,17 of march on the track I would welcome any bits of info you have no matter how small they are Lindsay
It's going to be raining on our 5 days in, but you should have better weather on yours.
Cancell my plan of doing a short section of Australian Alps Walking Track (AAWT) with the start from Walhalla Township which is about 180km east of Melbourne, Victoria. Will have it done later this season when it won't be hot. We do need the rain.
? Are you guys just trying to display some irony about my original post in this thread?? I'm not sure if I'm being mocked or justified. :)
While I think that EPIRB are useful, they do have the potential to ...... Getting onto the topic, I have also noticed the same thing occurring on the forum quite a bit, although it is not always a bad thing. Could be helpful to have a 'create new thread' button on the top of the forum.
I just find it confusing, I guess. It's also hard to link to discussions from outside if I want to refer someone to something interesting. There's a lot of good information in these forums, but if the topic starts half way down page 7 and is interspersed with things unrelated (as happens when it's difficult to create new threads), linking to the discussion gets confusing.
justified
Comments noted. I agree the "new thread" button is too prominent. I've clicked it myself by accident.
Some great trips and photos over the last couple of weeks. One suggestion - some posts could benefit from more detail in their captions. Sometimes it takes a few minutes for those of us less traveled to work out if a particular hut is in the Kaimanawas or the Arrowsmiths! But overall, it is great to see the site developing so well. There is crucial detail on some very remote routes, and the photos add a lot to the info. GPS co-ords also can be invaluable.
