Inner soles

Can anyone recommend a brand of inner sole (or at least a good shop to find them) that would suit tramping boots? I tried Bivouac and they had some but the teenage weekend salesperson's aura of not knowing much put me off. The ones built into my boots are pretty useless and lead to me getting blisters under my big toes. I'm looking for something comfortable and robust but not too heavy.
How specialised do they need to be ?. When I buy 'runners' for general wear, I usually take the inners out & stash them. They're usually good enough for my purposes. You could try a chemist or Rebel Sport ?. You can get some super-duper shock absorbing sorbothene liners, if you like ?. Try going back to Bivouac if you know what you want & they've got it. Have you pulled the inners out of your boots and had a look ?. Could be they're just worn out & a simple replacement will do ?. Sometimes grit gets under the inner and then irritates as a protruding pressure point. Better socks ?. If you've got a decent footwear repair shop, take the boots in for an opinion ?.
On a previous set of boots I got a pair of insoles from MrMinute that worked well but that was because the original soles wore out. However if you are looking for something orthotic you might have to bite the wallet and visit a podiatrist.
Our daughter uses custom footbeds in her snowboard boots, to prevent tendonitis and pressure points from long periods of time. She uses a local sports shop that makes them from a mould of her feet. There are many shops that advertise this, but be aware only a few actually do it correctly or even have the right equipment. The best shops have a special machine to shape the liners and then another machine to 3D manufacture the support. Don't bother with the footbeds that are just bent to fit your foot, they must be 3D to actually support it. Get online too, there is a bunch of good web sites that will school you up on the ins and outs. Good luck!
The old inners are thin so they provide little support and even bunch up. The girl at Bivouac said theirs are more orthotic ones for specific issues. I don't need orthotic ones, just robust and cushioning. I don't think I need anything too fancy.
A bit like car tyres. New ones are good, and then they wear out. If you're not needing to buy special orthotics for $50 at Sportsmed, then I'd just be buying anything with a bit of cushioning from the Red Shed, knowing they're going to get thrashed and need replacing eventually. Same as your cushioned socks ?. I had a mechanic friend, always on concrete in workboots, used to wear the sorbothene impact inners. A bit like the memory gel in the modern Skeecher range of shoes. Too soft for me, and too expensive to trash. So, again, I go for a moulded foam inner, the ones that come with New Balance runners & cross trainers. Just replace as needed. You shouldn't be suffering because of the state of your gear ?. Happy trails !.
Rebel Sport have the Sof Sol range - if you just want a replacement for a worn out set they might be all you need. I've got a pair of the thin fit ones http://www.rebelsport.co.nz/footwear/accessories/innersoles/8067953/Sof-Sole-Mens-Thin-Fit-Insoles.html and they fit nicely in my boots.
get the thinner sofsol ones, the thick ones you may need to size up to fit, they an squash your toes against the top of your footwear because most models are thick.. theres also greenfeet from kathmandu... much harder material though
Thanks guys, I looked up Rebel Sport online and I'm thinking of maybe the memory foam Sof Sols. I always have plenty of room above my toes so I think I would want something thick. I have expensive ($60) inner soles in my running shoes but I don't think I need to spend that much.
My feet have always been hard to buy shoes for. High arch and wide front-foot. Since buying my first tramping boots and doing the Pinnacles and Tongariro I was suffering horrendous foot pains, mainly around my toes. Would feel like stabbing pain and would force me to walk for hours curling my toes on one walking stride and extend them on the next. Repeat, repeat, taking up all your mental energy. After talking with someone I took the inner soles I had made for my snowboard boots and putting them in my tramping boots for the Routeburn last weekend. MAGIC. Maybe 10 mins of pain at one point so that's a cure for me :) Got them done at SnowPlanet in Auckland years ago, where you stand on them heated and they get shaped and they carve the bottom to fit your boot.
