Perfect Tramping Snacks

Have you tried any Tom & Luke products on your tramps? Tom & Luke bars are made in NZ from organic and non-organic ingredients. High in protein, fibre and healthy fats, their bars are light weight and satisfying...not to mention taste great! Gluten free and Vegan options available! Check out the website www.tomandluke.co.nz And check out this post before liking them on Facebook; https://www.facebook.com/TomandLuke/photos/a.226834280774240.1073741829.226832930774375/267233000067701/?type=1
only 5 bucks a bar and "Protein Isolate, Tom & Luke bars are the high fibre, high protein, high fat snacks of the future!" They dont even contain Spam (or do they)
If I want to spend $5 on a high protein/energy tramping snack then One Square Meal has 2 bars for $4.50 (ghastly aftertaste, except the chocolate ones).....and even then that's too expensive! Folk like Honora and others probably make their own for a 10th of the price.
I make my own ('Smart Slice' recipe from the Healthy Food Guide if anyone's interested), using butter instead of marg to up the fat content, and whatever dried fruits and nuts I have in the pantry. Probably costs me about $10 for 20 of 'em, plus half an hour of my time. Mind you, those pear + ginger breakfast bars look blardy nice.
I like the spam flavoured ones
Spam flavour is ok I suppose. Have you tried traffic jam on toast? Quite nice with a cup of coffee.
I've tried making snack bars but need to up the flour content over nuts and dried fruit so have to work out a decent recipe. I'm trying to avoid the grains as they are pro-inflammatory and I have thyroiditis. Trouble is I'm a lazy and unenthusiastic baker. I bought maca powder but that's not good for us Hashimoto's people but have chestnut flour which is absolutely delicious.
can you get wafers with it?
Or perhaps an albatross?
