Tongariro Crossing in Oct/Nov 08
Hi there
I would like to know do I need a guide if I want to do Tongariro Crossing now? I have done it once during summer, so thought it might be a good idea to go now as the view will be different.
Thanks
LeeSan
I was up in South Crater a couple of weeks ago and there was a lot of snow. The track and snow poles were all buried. It would be best to have an ice axe at least for crossing red crater, probably crampons if it is at all icy and you know how to use them.
There is still a lot of snow around this year.
You can't get a guide as guiding is not allowed on the Crossing but DOC are at at present reviewing that.
