Snow shoes

Has anyone used modern snow shoes? I've had experience once of slogging through thigh high snow and it got tiresome fast! I could be facing similar conditions soon and was just wondering... The ones I'm looking at have alloy frames with some composite material between and have toe and heel crampons that come into play as your foot moves. I'd only be using them on flat areas then switching to normal crampons when it gets steep. Cheers
Hi, I was discussing the advantages with a fella on Mt Bogong in Victoria, Aust, just last week. He had just slogged through snow to reach us and had only wished he had snow shoes. We had the MSR brand in use. A half dozen trips with them so far and every time i,ve taken repair gear thinking i'll need it and the bloody snow shoes just keep going. Once you've got them and gained some advantage in the snow it won't be long before the price will be forgotten. Consider some that offer a means to extend the surface area by way of attachment. I've spent a day punching in one or two foot deep even with snow shoes on. Good luck Aardvark
Hey treehugger, Also, some snowshoes such as ours have a wire bail which levers up under the foot arch to assist in climbing steep slopes. A valuable tool i must say. Aardvark
