Richmond Ranges
Does anyone know of any accommodation bordering the Richmond Ranges that we can tramp from please? Facilities are unimportant (very basic is fine) but must allow a well behaved dog.
Alternatively does anyone know of a property owner bordering the Richmond Ranges, where we can safely park our car and walk from?
Appreciate any suggestions, thanks.
The Richmond Range is a long range, really depends on what area you want to walk. On the Marlborough side there is no accommodation (that I can think of) near the mountains themselves. There is a few DOC huts within a hour walk from the start of tramps, a couple with 30 minutes.
I am certain if you asked, most of the farmers up the valleys would be willing to store your car.
Most of the huts have dog kennels, and a permission can be gotten from DOC to allow them into the park.
Thanks Militaris, I was looking at the Nelson side but am happy to travel. I also found a campsite in Cavastown - Pinedale, that borders the park and allows a dog, which is great.
Yeah there is accommodation around Cavanstown, there is also a DOC campground at road end.
Dogs allowed in park with a permit (which is easy to get).
