I find spirulina strong -- half a teaspoon in a smoothie or on muesli is about my limit. I guess it would only be a good protein source if you could stomach a lot of it. How about quinoa? It's considered a complete protein source. I've never thought to try it in the wild, but it has 5x the protein of white rice and about the same cooking time. Chia seeds have even more protein and make a good porridge as they absorb heaps of water. Something else I mean to try in the wild.
I ate a lot of Quinoa when I lived in Peru. Can't say I exactly consider it a delicacy, and it's certainly more time-consuming to prepare than porridge. But yes - would be a much healthier alternative, with a much longer release of energy as a bonus.
