HELP
Hiya, i am new to tramping and on the weekend after weeks of tramping with standard streetwear shoes! i decided to treat myself and purchase a pair of boots, i went for a full boot as i have had alot of trouble with my ankles twisting but the first time wearing them found that they are pressing terribly on the outside of my ankles, infact so bad that i ended up with brusies. Do i need to just "break them in" or have i been given the completley wrong advise from the shop? and brought a pair of $300.00 boots that i wont be able to wear. Does anyone have some advise for me? PLEASE
Good solid boots usually take a bit of waring in. Mine normally take up to 6 or so trips. I would advise on a change of socks (if you have invested in good boots do the same with your socks) and wear them on short walks at night for a few weeks before setting out on a weekend tramp
Heres how to break in your boots-
Go tramping in a river or stream and full them up with water, then walk for a couple hours after that and they should be a good fit! my boots that I did that to, i only started getting blisters about a year or so after my feet have grown, still going strong but got some nick after tramping up on the tops where there are sharp rocks. If anyone want an alsome boot go for GARMONTS
oh round the ankles try not to do them up so tight:) my father had rubbing and did not do up top eyelets then he was al good
Regarding boots, it is one of those questions that is very similar to "how long is a piece of string?". Personally I wear a sock liner (same concept as the sleeping bag liner) then a good pair of Thorlos. To break my boots in I put them on when I go for my evening or morning walk, yes you do look like a plonker especially if you live in town but when your in the wilds it is worth every rye smile.
I had some garmont explorers.. they broke accross the ball area of the sole.
Crap but hey, just my opinion :)
