Spam!!

Matthew: Can we do something about the spam? It really is ruining the site. I can't find the legit items for the cialis and wedding gift ads, not to mention the russian.

I too once thought promoting tramping and other outdoor pursuits was the best thing i could do. I now regret it. Let it take its natural course.

I'm content without serious Facebook integration, but I'd probably use it one way or another if it were there, depending on the how it worked. I do have lots and lots of tramping friends through clubs and otherwise who are heavy or recurring Facebook users to various extents but who don't frequent this site, or probably even know it exists. I've met other people and had odd discussions in existing Facebook places like the FMC Facebook page and things like the Which Tararua Hut Are You? app that was thrown together by someone in the VUWTC, though it's all in elementary stages with tramping stuff. I think something to be aware of is the way Facebook integration could potentially impact the number of people involved. I don't actively visit the NZ Tramper site very often any more --- I pop in when I see interesting things posted between 50-100 other news sources that I follow with an RSS reader. (Most don't put things out frequently, but when they do I see them straight away.) Facebook would be a similar tool for many people, especially younger people but also quite a lot of middle-aged people these days. It'd push the NZ Tramper stuff into the zone where they spend most of their time interacting on the 'net, rather than requiring them to specially visit an isolated website on their own initiative all the time. Anyway I'm not trying to argue in favour of or against it, but since Matthew asked the question I think that's the sort of thing that should probably be considered. It could vary as to the extent with which things like discussion boards and info pages and articles could or should be integrated, but maybe that's something up for discussion and experimentation if and when there's time and inclination.
Facebook is a good resource for a lot of people but not everyone. All it is is a huge discussion group. The one thing it does not have is a sence of direction. Because of that I see it as a great time waster. This is my opinion only If others see differently then I respect that. I have a facebook account but only log in once every several months
There isn't anything wrong with Facebook, however I do question a few people who are on it. Of my friends, some prattle on about what they had for breakfast or how much they hate Mondays. They really only show up what boring lives they have. But some are amusing, others aren't. The best interaction I have is probably with my fellow trampers. They put up photos of trips and ask questions. I put up photos of my trips and we have a good old chat about it. Directionless, yes, but a lot of human interaction is.
I also use FB, however my reservations about linking this site to it is that there are so many clubs/societies which in number terms appear to be the most active clubs in the universe, but in many cases of the 500 squillion members, or people who 'like' a particular page, very few of them actually have anything of any note to say, with lots of them overrun with as much spam like crap as we have been experiencing here. I feel that it might seem a success by having heaps of people looking and liking but translating this into active and responsible members of this site might be nothing more than an open invitation to the masses of idiots who haunt FB and other social networks. Not sure if it can actually do any real harm to us, but I simply doubt whether it can do any good either. Just my opinion.
OK, so this spam crap from Boris and the boys is supposed to be aimed at selling some rubbish or other........at least that's the impression I get from those in the know here. So what is this rubbish that the Kremlin keep pumping out under the 'Car Swap' thread supposed to be selling because when I run the translation through Bable Fish it turns out to be utter codswallop (you just gotta love that word). I'm obviously not in the intended demographic.......!
Only to find out what they are selling is to click on the link. Let us know what you get
That's my point.........there is no link.......so what the hell is the aim of posting claptrap..........?
google the title of each post. They are dating sites. Might get more than you bargained for though.
