Spam!!

Hi guys, thanks very much. I really appreciate that. Rest assured, the site is not going anywhere. Sometimes I'll have more time and sometimes less. To be clear, the site is not strictly "not for profit" -- it just works out that way. If it could pay for my time, I'd be fine with that! Regarding donations, I think it's a good idea to do in some form and I'll look into it soon, after the spam war. Just regarding keeping the site running...well actually it's hosted out of the US, so it doesn't know much about any earthquakes! However, the local company I work with professionally for hosting has had no outages either. It may have been a different story if they were located in the central city. On another topic, are you on Facebook? I'm looking at establishing a presence there too.... Matthew

Facebook a great idea. I think all of us oldies would like to see the average age of trampers decline, and 'social networking' seems the way to go.

Facebook is good for sharing the more casual photos, then I pick the more relevant ones to the tramp for this site. All my tramping photos on FB are open to everyone to view so anyone is welcome to look. A number of members of this forum are friends on Facebook as well. It'd be good to have some sort of presence for this site on Facebook as well so that members could move from one to the other. However the more special features of this site could not be reproduced on Facebook.

I am far from convinced that integrating Facebook accounts into other sites is a good thing.

I am not a current member of FaceBook and doubt the value of it. Been there done that doubt I shall ever go back. Perhaps it is a reflection of my age, but being bombarded by a load of irrelevant crap and a million and one worthless messages from all and sundry including well meaning family and friends and then being castigated for not being prompt in response was more than I was willing to contend with. I have a life, and can find far better things to do.

Hallelujah and then you have to remember how to get into the site, Same with txt'ing 10 minutes to get my head around the spelling and stumble out a reply with my 10 thumbs push send and before I can get the bloody phone back in my pocket theres a reply that requires immediate attention! Now i just dont reply to txt's at all if they need me they can call and talk to me.
