Spam!!

Matthew: Can we do something about the spam? It really is ruining the site. I can't find the legit items for the cialis and wedding gift ads, not to mention the russian.
It doesn't solve the problem, but for those who know how it may be useful to follow the forums via the RSS feed, which I'm now doing. With a decent reader (I'm using Google Reader) it's easier to see everything that's new and pay less attention to obvious spam.

My offer to help moderate until Matthews home city is back on an even keel is still open. 15 minutes a day would see most spam deleted before most users see it and since I read the forum every day it wouldnt be hard to do.
If Matthew doesnt want to use me for this maybe someone that knows Matthew should also offer
A generous offer "geeves" . I hope it is accepted! Even if it is a temporary measure until Matthew's post earthquake issues are resolved. The spam & especially when left for days certainly lessens the appeal of this site.
I don't think the problem is appointing the moderator, it is writing a program that allows someone who is not the programer to be able to moderate the forum. Matthew said he is working on something.
I'm sure you're right and we'll get rid of these idiots eventually.........but until then........?

This used to be, and in many ways still is, a great site, but sadly it's being overrun by all this spam crap, which for me anyway, is begining to put me off visiting it as often as I used to.
I'm inclined to think this may well be happeing to others too as it appears there are not as many and as varied posts as there used to be, or maybe its my imagination, either way for a newcomer to this site it could be very off-putting to see all this crap everywhere and still believe that we're a genuine site dedicated to tramping.
Just my opinion.
