Whats up with Macpac
Does anyone know what is up with Macpac.
I have noticed that it is now being sold via the 'fairydown' stores... and it looks like it would become a exclusive through that chain.
Has Jan Cameron now brought Macpac?
Have heard nothing in the media about it, although it was a simalar situation with the sale of fairydown. Hopefully it might result in a awesome clearance sale.

I am still waiting for the stores to expand through the rest of the country. I am now finding myself looking more seriously into other brands and products.
The fairydown website is still useless and little has been done to improve the MacPac one for the mail order business. If they were serious about mail order it would not take long to get a quality website up and running.
Their latest email on 11 July asks you to spot the new stores. Looking at their list I think Collingwood and Melbourne are new, and maybe one or two in the main centers. The email also offers the Cascade pack down $150 to $399
I don't expect thatthe role out of new stores will be too quick. There is a bit of a retail downturn at the moment.
Remember this crowd are a completely different one from the last lot. They are going to have to prove themselves. When I need to replace gear I will certainly be looking at other brands as well, as we all should do.
You are right, Just noticed they opened another store in Auckland (Takapuna) and a couple in Aussie.
I can understand why heavy duty Macpac packs such as the Cascade have been down $150 to $399. I had got one, the Glissade for myself before leaving Melbourne. The reason that came to my mind later is that there are good light weight Macpac packs. I saw these light weight packs in their Napier store while trying to look for the replacement of my tent. In fact, tents were also down 30% off. There were three Microlights left and I purchased one just a few days before leaving Auckland.
well i just purchased a new macpac cascade 90lt pack from the mercers st store in wellington when i was down there over the weekend, hopefully it will last me many years. i joined the macpac club while i was there so i only paid $380 which i thought was a pretty good price. alot of the prodcut seemed to be pretty well priced compared to other brands, its just a pity i still have to travel 4 hours to get to a store!, a store in new plymouth would be great, am not holding my breath though!
just a quick heads up...big end of season clearance sale of macpac and fairydown gear in Hamilton this weekend (actually-starts Thursday...)
Heard they are having a sale in Palmerston North this week. Thurs-Sunday in the old BBQ factory building... No idea where that is because I just stole this info from another forum.
Hope they continue to move the sale down the country and have one somewhere in the top of the South Island.
militaris...it has taken a while, but your hopes will be met next week. by the weekend we'll be in Nelson for a big sale and warehouse clearence!
Think I might have to visit Nelson next weekend. Hopefully the sea would also be calm so I can go for a kayak :)
Hopefully I would not be stuck at work.
Checked out the sale today, the real bargains would probably have been sold yesterday but there was still heaps in stock.
90% of the clothing seemed to be in size medium (I fit medium half of the time so it was not always a bad thing) and the sleeping bags were mostly all standard length which is no good for me. Ended up getting a Interwool Top which was a good fit, and also a 6th sense mountain light Jacket which is probably a size to small now that I think about it. But it just fits :)
There was a couple of Fairydown Plateau tents in the sample sections, $500 each. Was tempted to get one but have no idea where I would use it. Also found a Fairydown Everest Sleeping bag for $400 but have no need for such a heavy bag. I was tempted.
