getting to trail heads
Hi, my name is Charlie and me and a friend are going to be in the south island from end of January to Mid may, specifically we will be flying to Dunedin. We are going to be backpacking around and wont have access to cars or things like that. We want to do lots of tramping while we are there but we are getting worried as to how we are going to get to trail heads. Ive done lots of looking around on different websites and there are tons of different routes we would like, but we dont know how we would get there, and it seems that the buses dont go near enough to the start of the trails.
any help would be greatly appreciated,

Hi Charlie,
For all the major tracks you will be able to find bus/transport companies that can take you from the nearest town to the start of the track, and pick you up from the finish. Over summer (Jan to March at least, not so sure about april and may) they will probably run at least once a day, but at other times you should still be able to arrange a ride with them. My sister and I got a shuttle to the Heaphy in June, and when the access road was closed due to high rivers, they dropped us at a backpackers for the night then came back and took us in the next day.
Try googling "Rees Dart track transport" etc.
The less popular / less known tracks may be a little harder. You might be able to find others staying at backpackers etc who can give you a ride.
