Oturere Hut Vs Rangipo hut
Looking to do an overnighter in Tongariro in April and was wondering what is better, Oturere Hut from Mangatepopo Road and return via Tama lakes, or Rangipo hut from desert road. I would consider myself a moderately experienced tramper and can walk longish distances. What track is more scenic and how busy does Rangipo hut usually get around this time of the year.

Both are very scenic in different ways.
Oturere to Mangatepopo via Waihohonu and staying on track would be nudging 10 hours for me.
My favourite overnighter is Mangaturuturu hut from Scoria Flat in 5-6 hours
