A popular Mt Taranaki back country hut burnt to the ground at the weekend.
On Tuesday, Department of Conservation (DOC) staff confirmed Lake Dive Hut had been destroyed by a fire. However, the cause of the fire and exactly when it occurred is unknown at this stage.
“Many people will have fond memories of staying overnight there – it’s quite a loss,” DOC Taranaki operations manager Gareth Hopkins said.
A tramper reported the incident to DOC on Monday morning and DOC staff confirmed the report the same day.
