What more can one say. No climbing experience or gear and they got well up the mountain and couldnt get down.
Yeah, I don't think anyone with any knowledge thinks Taranaki is "easy" in winter.
I am not sure why people with no knowledge also think it is easy when they see it covered in snow and ice.

They might of been to Turoa to see their first ever snow and thought it was all like that.
what? you mean it isn't?
Turoa with nice people friendly groomed areas and gentle slopes everywhere the non skiing public can go. You can wander around the base are in gym shoes safely. Level up to another 1000m higher especially after a few days of freeze thaw and add a few dozen degrees of gradient and one of these 2 is not like the other one in any way shape or form
not sure what warning signage there is around mt taranaki.
guiding company on tongariro regularly advise people to turn back in winter when they arent equipped properly, some of them don't listen..
