Coronavirus: Making sure the Covid cure isn't worse for society than the disease
"For example, if the advice that the disease threatens the elderly much more than the young remains in place, how much pain should the Government put on the latter to protect the lives of the former. Different groups in the society will have different views about that. How much risk should the elderly be expected to manage themselves and what support might they need to do so,"

"Quantitative easing" is turning on the printing presses & printing more dollar notes without increasing the reserve backing to maintain the notes value. More money out there, but it's worth less. You end up using a wheelbarrow of cash to buy a loaf of bread like in Mugabe's Zimbabwe & Germany between 1921-23, which didn't go well thereafter.
Covid be all like ...

Right now I'd suggest what's worse is that screeds of people think that if they can drive 5 minutes it's probably okay to drive anywhere they want. People will rationalise meeting up with friends and family, go to the same place as hundreds of other people decided they also really wanted to go to, and all sorts of other things which are risky for everyone to be doing right now.
The real issue is that it's next to impossible to set and describe simple and specific rules, applicable everywhere, for what it's really important that people [don't] do right now.
originally authorities just said you had to stay in your community ie your town , or suburb.... in theory you could drive around your local community, you can still walk around it... that is a specific rule you can get people to follow.... tell people if they are found outside their commununity without a valid reason then they will get hit with a big fine, if they keep doing it they will get a free room with bars... thats a good incentive to get people to follow the rules.
Here we all are worrying about how far we can go from home as long as we consider the other rules. I know most of us (ok everyone except me maybe) have no intention of spreading this thing and are following all the rules that actually make a difference. ie handwashing avoiding other people etc. and then outside the local dairy on the seating there is a group of 15 people socializing. Even if we dont follow the letter of the law we are doing so much less damage than these 15.
Why dont we all just forget about the rules and the reasons for them as well?
The answer is that we have a stake in the consequences.
It seems the police have made the rules to suit themselves as they please.
This appears to be under the powers that a state of emergency gives police.
We had NZfirst also do a post saying its OK to go hunting and fishing lol, and I had a few friends leave on a hunting expedition the night before.
Please define tramping?
A short 30 min loop track wont be any danger, but a 4 hour or overnight hike into a remote area I get.
I have friends who live in a rural area and can access their local reserve with bush quite easily. Im assuming this will be OK for them to still do? The loop track is about 45mins.
If they define that as tramping, its a joke, you cant even get lost in the area as its surrounded by farmland lol
""A police spokesman said a 38-year-old man was arrested in Christchurch last night after he was seen on video online coughing at people in a supermarket.
"The man has been charged with endangering life by criminal nuisance and obstruction of a medical officer of health."""

Arrested to appear in Court on Monday. How did he obstruct a medical officer of health ?. Not open his door ?. Hang up on the phone ?. Refuse to answer a question ?. Refuse to cooperate in some way ?.
The gambling odds are made to be in favour of the House. Think before you push your luck.

obstruction by virtue of breaching hygiene regulations to limit the spread of a disease.... the law itself will have further detail...
my local park is swarming with people because theres so few options, peple in teh cities have fewer realistic options to get away from the masses with the law . its permitted to go there but its hard to keep your distance, theres most people are on the only road making it hard to keep your distance when you pass paeople, doable but people are walking at such different speeds nd regularly passwing each other, the tracks are too narrow to keep a safe distance.
Inner cities are always a problem. As soon as you have high density housing the number of people that have a finite space to enjoy just overloads it. That space might have been fine when you could group several families together for a picnic etc but make each family group stay so far from each other including the kids and its not going to work. Add blocks of flats where the single entrance is small and shared by everyone and you might as well not bother.
Its no wonder some are getting quite up tight about the whole affair
i've seen safe distancing street parties and apartment block parties but its not where i live
