Well ... looks North Island. And there's not many NI huts I've not been to - and I'm pretty sure that I've not been to that one! So that makes it Whanganui-Waikato - up that west side somewhere ... Correct? or barking at the wrong trees?

... and thanks to madpom for pointing the way ! I'd been looking for huts with 'clear' or similar in the name. Where was this bridge and where is it now ?? https://tramper.nz/imgcache/28/28157-feature.jpg BTW, tomorrow I'm out of 14-day quarantine (return from NZ tramp) and into ... isolation, like everyone else :( sigh

Looks very low to the riverbed and flood debris - so am I right is supposing that the answer to part 2 is 'somewhere downriver'? That dense beech on the far bank _feels_ like Canterbury but mentally walked all the bits of TA I know and can't place it.

:) yep, downstream is the 2nd bit. Originally a short distance downstream, the new bridge is now a short distance upstream of the nearby hut. BTW, the photo is of the previous bridge, not the current.
