Snowy Creek to Lochnagar

Here's the link to the Public Access website. http://wams.org.nz/wams_desktop/index.aspx I can't see the difference between the Outdoor Access and Public Access Maps and the maps don't seem to be as helpful as they once were when they were superimposed onto the background of the topographic map.

Spoke to Margaret Blue from Branches Station on 441 8421. Friendly and helpful, said to just call closer to the date to confirm when I'll be in that area.

Honora, I also hadn't been to WAMS for a while and had the same problem - but you can change the basemap. I'm not sure what's the difference between Outdoor and Public but select one and then, from the menu, select Basemap and choose NZ Toppo - voila! Have a look at the Layers menu item, too. You can tailor the info shown on the map.

Moving slightly off topic for a sec so maybe someone could PM me the answer, but I have found an inaccuracy in the maps/access in the link above. Is there anyone specific I contact to request it be updated/corrected?

If it's an issue with the base map (eg the topo map), I'd contact LINZ. If it's an issue with a layer (eg the green public access layer), email GIS@walkingaccess.govt.nz

HI All I'm an armed tramper and for me knowing whats public land and whats not is crucial so I use the site DOC discover the outdoors,to plan trips. The other tool I use is the Topo maps App(North or South Island) downloaded to my phone and it shows Doc land boundaries.I always carry my phone for photos and Ballistic applications so having the maps at my finger tips is something I have learnt to rely on. Also these maps can navigate for you even with no reception by using satelite's it can show me exactly where I am on the hill,but I'm guessing that's probably a bit to techy for you old school map and compass purists. Pine Creek sidle is very doable just needs to be in dry conditions and I am unsure of your experience or head for heights. To quote Moir's "This is a high route requiring REASONABLE experience". Also I found a video of a father and son Hunting the basin above the lake years ago on youtube that.They flew in but might show some of that country your talking about.Enter Chamois hunting and see what comes up. PS Arthur never wore shoes.
