Where to stay on the te anau
Would it be possible to walk most of if not all of the te anau trail without staying in huts or in places in town? I’m fine with paying any campsite fees but I just much prefer my tent as accommodation
there are designated campsites, you must pay to stay at them during the summer season.
you cannot camp within 500m of the track outside of the designated areas.
there is lower fee in winter for using the campsites
look at the doc website

Sorry that autocorrected, I meant Te Araroa
I reckon it would be possible as there are no restrictions on camping along the trail except in Northland I think. Others will be better informed than I am. You can check the official Te Araroa website for guidance and ask on that forum too.
