Are Macpac Merino any different to Icebreaker?

So I have some polyprop thermals to wear while tramping in colder weather and looking for some more comfortable merino to wear while in the hut. I looked at Icebreaker and Macpac and can see that Macpac merino is quite cheaper. I like the look [these](https://www.macpac.co.nz/merino-220-pants-mens.html) and [these](https://www.macpac.co.nz/mens/thermal-underwear/merino/merino-220-top-mens.html) from Macpac as they are quite cheap compared to Icebreaker. **Is Macpac merino any different to Icebreaker or does Icebreaker have a bigger markup than Macpac**?

@gaiters what over gloves do you use or recommend?
I just use cheap macpac polypropylene gloves and a pair of cheap waterproof gloves I bought from fco when it was open. They do the job. Most of my stuff is cheapish if that's a word. The only think I don't scrimp on is pack, boots, jacket, sleeping bag, plb.
nitrile coated gloves from the hardware and industrial wear shops made for cool stores, that are custom fitting rubber are good, even some climbers use them.
wear wool MKM T shirt or singlet, always. always comfortable, when wet, hot etc 180 - 230 weight Macpac merino as next layer. Gloves, only Norsewear type, under waterproof mits if wet
I've got several possum/merino gloves but they absolutely don't wear well. Only use them if you don't mind darning! All of these gloves I've found on the street fortunately. I wouldn't spend money on them but they are very warm under overmitts. I've got merino gloveliners but avoid using them as they're potentially fragile. I've found the Ultimate Goretex overmitts good as they are light but not cheap and I paint electrician's tape over the palms as the surface wears off quickly. With possum/merino underneath it doesn't matter so much if they're not that waterproof anymore. I've got yak mitts for seriously cold weather. I bought the ninja gloves with the fleecy lining but in rain they get wet then don't dry out so no good for the hills but OK for a bike ride. I've found an awful lot of polypro gloves over the years - bit of a magpie I'll admit. They're not that flash in cold weather but very hardy except if you're playing with fire...I stash my gloves against my body in cold weather when they're not being worn. Gear loops are good but these days I'm too lazy to sew them on.
I have the [Sealskinz Dragon Eye](https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=0ahUKEwjZkYvI1qDbAhWGkpQKHY1dAkkQFgh1MAA&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sealskinz.com%2Fgloves%2Fdragon-eye-gloves.htm&usg=AOvVaw14Hv7xktXRB94kUXKBXxRj) gloves which are waterproof and breatheable but trying to decide if polypro/merino gloves with waterproof overmitts are better than the all in one waterproof glove
I have exactly that. Waterproof sealskinz , a waterproof overmitt, and liner gloves - synthetic. It's a matter of understanding when to use each of them. They're all lightweight. I also have my 30 below mitts for overnight in the snow.
I used to buy Macpac merino boxers but got sick of taking them back because they'd worn out within 2-3 months (usually a hole, followed by a big ladder). Switched to Icebreaker 18 months ago and the original pairs I bought are showing no signs of wear. You get what you pay for.
@hutchk funny you say that as I bought two pairs of Macpac 180 merino boxers online last night. Did you have any problems with getting a refund?
No, they were really good about it (I went back three times before I gave up). One of the staff told me I wasn't the only one bringing multiple pairs back...
