I began a relearning of hiking after a hiatus of 25 years: although I'm not sure that army training counts as recreational hiking! Now with my partner Hilary and her daughter Mia, we are working through the Great Walks. I would like to take on some of the more challenging tracks, but with knee injuries I have to do what I can within my limits of confidence - getting injured in the middle of nowhere is not smart. I have done the following so far: 2003 Able Tasman coastal track & Tongariro crossing 2004 Lake Waikaremoana circuit 2005 Taieri Rail Trail, Kepler & Milford tracks 2005 Tongariro Crossing again & began the Round Ruapehu track but came off with a ruptured ACL 2006 Heaphy track 2007 Round Mt Taranaki Circuit. 2008 Mavora Lakes Walkway, Greenstone Caples track 2009 St James Walkway + side tracks 2010 Revisiting Abel Tasman, planned Heaphy but got injured. 2011 3 Weeks in Canadian Rocky Mountains
