My hiking started back when I was growing up on Mount Desert Isle, Maine (US) which is 75% covered by Acadia national park. The "mountains" top out at 1500 feet, but they are made largely of pink granite and are very beautiful. Since then I have backpacked from Lake Tahoe to Mt. Whitney, and trekked in Nepal, climbed in Peru, and done some great tramps in NZ: Leslie/Karamea, tramp in the Hurunui river area, and a Hollyford-Olivine hut return.
