Macpac Wanaka Tent User

  • I am looking at a better tent for back country car/4wd trips. Want something able to stand a bit of wind. Last trip to South Island in Oct 2016 did not camp at either Mt Cook or Ashburton Lakes because the wind would have been too much for our Coleman tent. The Coleman tent is fine where you can get shelter. Has anybody got or have used a Macpac Wanaka tent and your thoughts. Thanks
  • Ive looked at the Wanaka a few times but even on sale I didnt like the price. Even then though its really a little big for the 2 of us. You might be able to upgrade the poles on your Coleman with something like this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Professional-length-7001-t6-poles-tent-aluminum-rod-aluminum-alloy-mount/1686444831.html?ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_2_10152_10065_10151_10344_10068_10345_10342_10547_10343_10340_10341_10548_10541_10562_10084_10083_10307_10175_10060_10155_10154_10539_10312_10059_10313_10314_10534_10533_100031_10103_10073_10594_10557_10596_10595_10142_10107,searchweb201603_25,ppcSwitch_5&btsid=53b0e7dd-e2f8-4beb-8c75-2cbc10f5fedc&algo_expid=f9dd5033-e8de-42e1-8740-87983d74dc6d-8&algo_pvid=f9dd5033-e8de-42e1-8740-87983d74dc6d&rmStoreLevelAB=0 and then it will take anything you can throw at it I did this with a warehouse tent and it worked well.
  • Dwights stand up to the wind. I was camping in a storm back in January. By the end of it the Dwights tents were the only ones left standing: https://www.dwights.co.nz/tents/dome
  • Kiwi Camping have a good range of affordable tents for all occasions. They would be my first stop for tents designed for NZ conditions.
