  • Loo's with a view ?. Ces Clark Hut - (Croesus Track). The long drop's a little further west of the hut and has better views looking out to Mt Cook.
  • Howletts and Top Maropea in the Ruahines are 2 that spring to mind, beautiful country as well.
  • I second Top Maropea, a view so good I took a photo out the dunny door. Dominie Biv gets my vote in the Kawekas.
  • Haven't been to any of them, but Tarn Ridge in Tararuas has a nice view of Bannister ridge
  • The shitter outside Tarn Biv in the Ruahines has a 360 degree view.
  • A few years ago wilderness mag had a picture of a loo completly minus building by design. Cant remember where it was but the caption suggested taking a spade in winter to unbury it.
  • There are a few like that. eg. Kylie Biv in the Ruahine: http://tramper.co.nz/?6667 The [relatively] new Purity Hut in the Ruahine also has a big wide window in the door, I think, unless it's been changed since I was last there a few years back.
  • Fenella Hut in Kahurangi has an old 'hall door' which is great except that all the glass is opaque! Check it out at https://www.flickr.com/photos/7272097@N08/8452455934/ it sure is unique! Adelaide Tarn hut has 360* views as there is no toilet, just rocks!
  • Must have been a little while since you have been to adelaide tarn. Now has one of those Norski toilets on a containment tank. The open air toilets like Tarn and Kylie are quite tricky to use in the rain/wind - haven't figured out how to keep the toilet paper dry under those conditions yet....... Also pretty chilly when you have to scrape the ice/snow off the seat first. But at least they aren't smelly.
  • Plateau Hut in the Aoraki/Mt Cook area, views out to the mountain and local glaciers. I think they recently put a window in so you can see the snow blowing past. Bloody cold! Also Caroline and Mueller in the same area.
