"Closed" tracks, Egmont

  • I just carry this chainsaw in case of emergencies...
  • @ Honora, yep the real McCoy 'DOC orange triangles'. I did not cut my way through the piles of windfall but when I came across an obscured 'DOC orange triangle' I severely dealt to the vegetation surrounding it. @ Izogi, the inconsistencies regarding cutting or clearing of tracks throughout the country certainly ranges from one end of the spectrum to the other. DOC on the West Coast are 'happy as pigs in mud' about it & the Permolat group, of which I'm an active member, does alot of track work, including opening up, long disused & overgrown tracks ex NZFS tracks, such as those up the true right of the Hokitika River. I know there's a few groups in the Taranaki region that look after the odd track here & there. Perhaps this is an opportunity for a Permolat type group (similar to that on the West Coast & in the Ruahines) to start operating in Taranaki by pooling their resources to prevent tracks from 'disappearing' & also to send a strong message to their local DOC folk that 'enough is enough' & they need to be more transparent. Here in Canterbury (& in the Manawatu), DOC hosts a 4-monthly 'Recreation Users Group' (RUG) meeting to inform the RUG of DOC's upcoming projects & plans & to provide feedback about what they have been doing. Does this happen in the Taranaki region?
