The beautiful Taruarau River

The beautiful Taruarau River

The Taruarau runs through the northern Ruahines before joining the Ngaruroro. Great fishing, swimming and the clearest river water I've seen in Hawkes Bay. Wild Merino sheep can often be seen high on the scree slopes above the river, a reminder of an aborted attempt at farming the area in the late 1800's/early 1900's.
