Aparima Forks Hut

Aparima Forks Hut

A 2-bunk hut in the Takitimus at the forks of Nth and Sth Aparima Creek. Sits in beech bush on the true right - the track up the valley crosses the river just below the hut.

Above the hut both the north and sth forks are easily navigable with good unmarked animal / people tracks through the bush to the bushedge. Boith valleys then climb relatively easily to end with steep tussock / scree scrambles to the Takitimu Main Range. Passes cross into the Redcliff, Spence and Whare Creek - each of which have huts. The Spence offers a loop back to the Aparima and the Dunrobin roadend, whilst Whare Creek and Redcliff (via Windy Valley) lead out the western side of the park.

The ridgeline between the two forks in tough going and not recommended - but the Takitimu Main Ridgeline offers good travel from the head of either valley fork.
