Jacko Flat hut

An NZFS 1963 built six bunk hut on a flat in the middle sections of the Crooked River. The Crooked Valley is a lowly visited area between the Taramakau & Haupiri Rivers. The track was re cut in 2009 so that may encourage visitors?

Getting there
Getting there
From the Rotomanu-Bell Hill Rd you take the old Kopara forestry road which turns off just Nth of Puzzle Creek. It looks like a farm road & there is a gate at the start. Drive to a parking spot where the Crooked River bridge has been washed out. The track starts here and follows up the TL of Crooked R. It took us 4hrs walking up to Jacko Flat hut and then another 2hrs on to Top Crooked hut. A badly overgrown track heads from Jacko Flat up to the tops giving access to Mt Alexander & Camp Creek.
