"Top" Waitahu biv

This biv is situated in the headwaters of the Waitahu River. It is high in the scrub zone almost at the tussock line. Very few people walk in to this biv. Most visitors fly in, either chamois hunters or DOC staff doing hut checks.

Untracked and unmarked routes exist from 1/ Lake Stream biv via the tops at the head of Lake Stream, dropping into the head of Shaw Stream then crossing a col and dropping down to the biv. 2/ Up the Waitahu River from Montgomerie hut. (A long bush bash)
