The route to Lake Nerine from Park Pass

The route to Lake Nerine from Park Pass

Looking from the moraine of Park Pass glacier, the steep snowgrass slopes can be seen to the south. These slopes are negotiated from Park Pass to ascend to Lake Nerine.

  • pmcke pmcke I think the slope might have stabilised a bit over the years. My first crossing of them was in 1971 and I didn't get to look at them in advance because it was foggy. It was quite a nerve racking experience. Probably more loose scree than grass. The other 2 times have been in the 1990s and 2000s, I was very nervous approaching them but it wasn't nearly as bad as I remembered them first time. Plenty if grass to hang on to these times.

  • aardvark aardvark It may well have something to do wih how much one phsycs themselves out about it before arrival but i often find situations like this one looking steep in person at first sight but never able to translate as such on camera. I had to collect about two dozen shots from above, below and level etc to get anything like this.

  • pmcke pmcke I always feel very nervous about crossing those slopes but in my photos it always looks easy. This is the first photo I have seen that makes them look steep. I have concluded now that they are probably not dangerous unless there is snow on them.
