The pre-dawn start at Jumboland Flats

The pre-dawn start at Jumboland Flats

We moved to a better site for the next night. A little tree cover to avoid the moisture. A frost has covered the packs and the tent. Wilkin river Nov 2007

  • aardvark aardvark I would often prefer to spend as little time in the tent as possible. We do often carry a lightweight sheet/tarp to provide an open area out of the rain or to cover the tent at night and allow an early quick getaway without a wet tent. I think the key is to be flexible and there are often other factors to influence the decision at the time. It is more prudent to consider the warmth really comes from your body and the sleeping bag should be chosen to do the job regardless of the tent or alt.shelter.

  • pmcke pmcke I keep having this debate with a tramping friend of mine. She always says best to camp in the bush because then it is warmer and the frost doesn't settle on the tent. I say, better to be out in the open otherwise you won't know it has stopped raining until hours after it has axtually stopped.
