Tongariro National Park Blyth Hut to Ohakune Mountain Road via South East Basin

From behind Blyth Hut, a poled route exists to the South East Basin of the Turoa skifield. It is not necessary to climb to the last pole, however, climb to a position 20 meters below and West of the pole. From this position, sidle left whilst maintaining height. After a short period, the Turoa skifield carpark road is reached (carpark 5). Walk this road to connect with the Ohakune Mountain Road. Five minutes down this road is the continuation of Round The Mountain Track.

This poled route is an alternative to walking the OMR when tramping RTM track. From Blyth Hut the first 10 minutes is muddy then opening up to volcanic terrain.
