Coman's Track is an interesting coastal clamber above Karekare. It forms a section of the Hillary Trail. Combine it with the Ahu Ahu Track to form a pleasant short loop from Karekare.

From the car park at the end of Watchman Road, set off under coastal kawakawa, karaka, mahoe, pohutukawa, and nikau. Pass the junction with Ahu Ahu Track in a couple of minutes. The muddy and slippery track comes to a view down onto the beach of Tāhoro / Union Bay, north of The Watchman, an old lava dome.  The track climbs through windshorn trees and soon flattens off, before climbing to a big old pohutukawa. From here, the track drops to a junction with the wide Ahu Ahu Track.

Ahu Ahu Track is an old bridle trail, and makes for a pleasant and easy wander back to the car park.  Return time via Ahu Ahu Track is 45 minutes.
