Remarkable Peak

Remarkable Peak

This photo shows Remarkable Peak 1790m in spring conditions. It is the tooth like peak centre picture. The pic was taken from the summit of Bald Hill on the Bald Hill Range.

Remarkable Peak sits near the head of several Mikonui River tributaries and the Cropp River tribuatary of the Whitcombe River. It can be climbed in a day trip from the Cropp basin (no longer a hut there) or from Healey Creek Hut. The climb is just a scramble but a head for heights is required and some parties may like the safety of a rope in a couple of places if taking the Healey Spur route.

Bald Hill where this photo was taken from can be approached from the Totara Valley Road using ridge systems between Weir Creek and Farmers/Beaufils Creeks to get up on to the Bald Hill Range. Another approach route is to take the track from Explorer Hut on Douglas Saddle to Fraser Peak then do a ridge traverse through tussock and scrub across to Bald Hill.

Comments

  • glennj glennj Bald Hill where this photo was taken from is now much easier to get to than was fairly recently the case. The old overgrown benched miners track from the Totara in to Farmers Creek has been cleared as has the old cullers track that led from there up to the Bald Hill Range.
