Remains of Eight Mile Hut Lyell Jan 2015

I popped in to this hut when returning from a visit to check out the new Stern Valley and Ghost Lake Huts on the Old Ghost Road Cycle Trail. Only a few years back JH & I eyeballed this hut when passing and it was still standing though in poor condition.

Eight Mile Hut is thought to be associated with the nearby Tyrconnell gold mine which operated from 1882 to 1898. The hut had restoration done on it in 1963 which gave it another fifty or so years of life. There are many old hut sites in the Lyell from the gold mining & track construction days.
