Courthouse Flat campsite

Kahurangi National Park

Wide grassy camping in the Wangapeka Valley. A common access point onto Mount Owen via Granity Pass Hut. A number of short walks explore the gold mining history of the area.

The campsite is on the location of the former gold town of Gladstone. The remnants of the courthouse chimney are still visible.

The area is very popular with sandflies, but not so many people camp here. Facilities include picnic tables, information panels, a toilet, and a short view point walk. A local telephone is located at Prices Flat near Rolling Junction.

The road in is long, single lane, and dirt, but suitable for regular cars. There are several small fords, plus one large ford. The Dart Ford can rise and become impassible in wet weather.
