A variant on the trip to/from Pinchgut Hut via the Okuku. The track from Whare Spur is an old NZFS 4WD track that was surplanted by the DoC Okuku track. This track is currently cut to the NZFS 6 foot cut standard.

This track leads to Whare Stream and another half hour's travel down the stream to the junction of Whare Stream and the Okuku River. We have opened up routes bypassing the stream in some areas. It is very pretty and usually has deer tracks in it.

There is also the option of crossing Whare Stream where the track comes down to it and continuing over a spur to Gorge Creek and then up to Forestdale Rd, via Pinchgut Road.
