Kahutara Bivvy
Ka Whata Tu o Rakihouia Conservation Park
Late model round-top NZFS biv on the Northern Branch of the Kahutara River in the Seaward Kaikoura Range. Previously in the Western Branch of the Kahutara River, but shifted to present location in 1998. Mainly used by goat cullers, hut baggers (Quentin, R. Porte, Roger Conway and the usual suspects) and occasionally hunters as there are huge numbers of goats and some pigs and deer in here as well.

Getting there

Easiest accessed from Blind Saddle on the way in to the Clarence Reserve. See track information under Kahutara track. Also jpg. showing route to biv and gpx. file. Also people go to the biv from Alfred Biv. Once you get in the main Kahutara R. there's a track leading up a well-defined spur to the biv. The start of it is marked with a pink ribbon. From there head to the spur which is open, easy travel but unmarked and uncut until you come to a series of pink ribbons to guide you to the hut |
